Gorilla Murders are National Geographics June cover story
Category: Gorillas | Date: Jun 23 2008 | By: admin
I have just seen the latest cover photo of National Geographic which is titled “Who murdered the Virunga Gorillas?”
I haven’t read it as the magazine is not available in Rwanda yet, but I’ve heard that it’s a 40 page must read with spectacular photos and revelations!!! The Gorilla blog on WildlifeDirect discussed many of the issues - it will be interesting to see how the world responds to the exposure of the killers. Emmanuel is in DC this week to discuss the finding - so keep yourself glued to Gorilla blog. Given the amount of speculation about the motivation of the killers last year, I’d be curious to know whether the Nat Geo investigation fully explains why the gorillas were killed and who did it. I’ll get the magazine next week and would appreciate your thoughts on this too after you’ve read the gorilla blog and other stories. What do you think should be done now that names have been named?

It is sad that this article blames the killings on someone that should have been protecting them………….the warden……….I hope he will get the fullest punishment available…………he knew better…if he is found guilty……….NO MERCY! That is what he showed Senkekwe and his family!

The killings were awful, indeed, but then to abuse Paulin Ngobobo for trying to expose the act and corruption was equally unforgivable. I hope all these killers and poachers get to meet their victims in a locked boma on their way to hades!

I’m glad that Nat Geo is finally doing this story. Honestly, I felt it should have been done months ago. Nat Geo did a small story on the murders of the Virunga Gorillas, a while back, but I felt it should have been front page news back then, along with the fact that the rebels have been occupying the gorilla sector “within” the park for almost a year now. I agree with Annie, no mercy for the warden if he is found guilty! Lisa

I have seen the Magazine and read the cover, but I really get pissed off when reading that a Gorilla family was murdered, that is just something awful. Really…. can something be done, is there justice in this world??? It’s a pitty and something we must regret…
