Where the Wild Things Grow (not!)

“Whore of the Orient, Paris of the East; city of quick riches, ill-gotten gains and fortunes lost on the tumble of the dice; the domain of adventurers, swindlers, gamblers, drug runners, tycoons, missionaries, gangsters and backstreet pimps; the city that plots revolution and dances as the revolution shoots its way into town - Shanghai was a dark memory…”
Thus wrote the Lonely Planet Guide to Shanghai. Sounded just like the kinda place for a family of three from the ostensible sleepy suburbs of Nairobi where the wild things grow…so off we went in search of quick riches, adventures and a real revolution! Alas…
And with our superduper new camera, we could just make out the cavity on King Kong’s molars:
But we wanted to get away from all that. Better go down town, try the local cuisine…if I can read the map (they don’t call me Confucious for nothing…)
Now for some real Chinese. Hmmm…times have changed: talk about a BigBug - I mean Mac!!
Ugali, ugali my kingdom for ugali!!!! Where’s my mobile phone? Let’s get takeaway!
Ok, ok, let’s skip the chow and check out the amazing architecture of the orient…
“You suck Papa! Can someone get us a real tourguide?“
Ah but my dear, “tis’ the madness of a memory that busies itself amongst forbidden things…”
What! Are the Orange Deomocratic Movement here as well?!
I think I’m going slightly mad…

It’s good to know that little girls are still making that face when on vacation in strange places…My dad has almost that exact same picture of me.
Keep up the good work and here’s to finding a real adventure in the orient!

Have a good time in China. I’ve seen that look on Sungu’s face too. She shrieked at me once when I tried to “help” her drink some orange juice. She did NOT want help! Love

I heard it’s good luck to throw yourself off of the Great Wall of China head-first. Try it!

Dipesh, please do not take up David’s dare, we need you! Loved the photos, esp. of your daughter.

I agree with Theresa. Dipesh, under no circumstances jump off that wall!
Yes, the photo of your daughter is truly wonderful!
