Hi Paula. I am a teacher, and my grade 2/3 class is extremely interested in Owen and Mzee. We have read the books and we tie it into our learning on Character Education. We would like to write letters to the staff of Haller Park, and hopefully make a donation. Is there a donation fund we could send it to?
Thank you for keeping us updated through your websites and posts! We are always eager to find out about Owen and Mzee, although we get teary when we think about them not being together anymore.

Paula, I nominate this post as the most joyous one I have ever read! Many of these unlikely pairings have been shown on Animal Planet. There was a documentary entitled "The Heart of a Lioness", I believe it refers to the lioness and the baby oryx. Several months ago on CNN and Animal Planet, they showed baby Tigers and baby Orangs cuddling together in a zoo in Asia, major cute alert! And have you heard about Jessica the hippo who thinks she is a human, she even gets along with the family dog. Recently, at Atamato's blog, we learned of an elephant who played with a hippo. Yes, we humans sure could learn a lot from these beautiful friendships.

Paula, Wow, this Owen namesake story gave me the chills. Especially, the part "I'm here to help someone find himself." Considering the remarkable friendship that Owen and Mzee established and the fact that Mzee has the face of a hippo on the back of his shell!!!!!! It's almost something devine. This story keeps getting better. Please let us know if you ever find Owen Saubion or even a picture of him.

Paula -- you must be a mind reader today! I was just talking about you, and Owen, and Mzee about an hour ago to a colleague!! I really miss the blog dedicated to them, but it seems both hippo and turtle are very happy, even without one another. I also miss hearing from Stephen...do you ever see or hear from him?
